RMIT-2:
Mastering Research Management
Do you have more than 2 years of RM experience?
Then Mastering Research Management is
made specifically for you!
The second course in the RMIT program is aimed at individuals with between c. 2 and 15 years of RM experience. All research managers are welcome, regardless of where they are working. RMIT-2 focuses on proficiency level 2, 'Building independence' of the European Commission's RM Comp: The European Competence Framework for Research Managers.

For research managers with less than 2 years of experience, RMIT-1: New in the RM profession may be a better choice. For research managers that are transitioning into a leader or expert role, RMIT-3, which is in development, may be more relevant.

The training course
RMIT-2 uses a hackathon approach with three core training blocks, each designed to allow research managers to expore their current setting, challenges, possibilities, and solutions:
A. Context: gain a profound understanding of research management through own case stories, exercises, and thematic presentations.
B. Depth: dive into advanced project and research management techniques and develop solutions through teamwork.
C. Future: map out the future of research management, your organisation and yourself.
Each participant will be asked to bring their own real challenge as a case story to use in the hackathon, ensuring that every participant returns with new tools and insights, see overview diagram (PDF):
RMIT-2 is thus designed to not only explore the current and future state of research management, but also to connect deeply with each participant’s own experience. The program includes sessions on advanced project management techniques, communication and stakeholder engagement, career development and planning, strategy development, and more. A theme throughout the course will be a discussion of the proficiency levels of RM Comp, what they mean, and how they can (and can't) be used for different purposes.
